He was born in 1959 in Unye - Ordu. He graduated from Unye High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1982. He completed his doctorate education at Gülhane Military Medical Faculty (GATA) Department of Medical Pharmacology in 1992. He received the title of associate professor in 1995. In 1997-1998, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Pharmacology, University of North Texas, Health Sciences Center, in the United States, with scholarships from TUBİTAK and the University of North Texas, and in Italy, with a scholarship from the University of Cagliari, in the Department of Toxicology, University of Cagliari, Faculty of Pharmacy, in 1999. He received the title of professor in 2003. He worked as the Head of the Department of Medical Pharmacology at GATA Faculty of Medicine between 2003 and 2011, and as a Member of the GATA High Science Council between 2011 and 2013. He retired from the Turkish Armed Forces at his own request in 2013. He currently serves as Advisor to the Rector at Uskudar University, Head of the Department of Internal Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, Head of the Department of Medical Pharmacology and Director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Application and Research Center (NPFUAM). He has been a referee in the evaluation of more than 200 articles for publication in 54 international scientific journals listed in SCI and in the evaluation of more than 200 TUBİTAK and TUBA projects. He served as a member of the TUBİTAK Ulakbim Turkish Medical Index Board between 2003 and 2012, and as a member of the Substance Addiction Treatment Methods Scientific Commission of the Ministry of Health between 2004 and 2012. He has been a member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Pharmacists Association and the Academy of Pharmacy since 2007. He has been the president of the Academy since 2016. Prof. continues his studies in the field of experimental neuropsychopharmacology. Dr. Uzbay has published 11 Turkish and 1 English books specific to this field, 30 book chapters, 3 of which are international, 27 of which are national, and 123 scientific articles in journals included in international indexes. His publications have been cited more than 3900 times. The SCI H index is 26, the SCOPUS H Index is 27, and the Google Scholar H Index is 34. Roche Medical Research Award (1994), Academy of Pharmacy Science Award (2005), Prof. Dr. Rasim Adasal Science Award (2005), Popular Science Award (2007), Brain Research Association (BAD) Publication Incentive Award (2008) and Original Solutions Project Market and Competition (Ege University, Ege University Science Technology Application and Research Center, TUBİTAK and ELGİNKAN). He is the winner of the first prize (2009) with the support of the Foundation. He received the examined patent of three drug candidate molecules for the formation, diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. His research in this field was rewarded with the New Inventions Ribbon Badge and Headquarters Distinguished Service Award by the Turkish Armed Forces. Prof. Dr. Uzbay has also made important scientific studies and publications on Alcohol and Substance Addiction. In order to raise awareness and educate the society about substance addiction, he has given more than 300 voluntary conferences and published articles directly to the society at meetings organized by various schools and non-governmental organizations. Prof. Dr. Tayfun Uzbay speaks English, is married and has a child.
