After therapy, the key objective is confirming SVR—showing that HCV RNA remains negative at the scheduled follow-up timepoint. This is considered cure. However, people with cirrhosis may still need ongoing surveillance (such as liver cancer screening). Reinfection is also possible if risk exposures continue. Post-treatment management should therefore be aligned to liver disease stage and individual risk profile.
