At what ferritin level does it become dangerous?

There is no single ferritin number that is universally “dangerous,” because clinical risk depends on age, sex, symptoms, and the rest of the laboratory picture. Very low ferritin may suggest that iron stores are significantly depleted and can become more concerning when accompanied by fatigue, shortness of breath, poor performance, or hair loss. Very high ferritin may indicate iron overload in some people, but in others it may reflect infection, inflammation, liver disease, or metabolic dysfunction. For that reason, labeling ferritin as simply “dangerous” or “not dangerous” based on one number alone is misleading. What matters is how the value fits with symptoms and related tests. If the result is far outside the expected range or symptoms are present, medical evaluation should not be delayed.
