At what ferritin level is an IV treatment given?

The phrase “getting an IV” is used broadly in everyday language, but in low ferritin the decision to use intravenous iron or fluid therapy is not based on a single ferritin number alone. It depends on symptoms, hemoglobin level, overall clinical status, absorption capacity, response to oral iron, and underlying medical conditions. Some people may have very low ferritin and still respond well to oral treatment. Others may need intravenous iron because of malabsorption, significant deficiency, pregnancy-related situations, or poor tolerance of oral iron. For that reason, there is no universal cutoff that automatically means an IV is required. The decision must be made in clinical context and under medical supervision.
