Is a cat bite the same as cat scratch fever?

Both scratches and bites can transmit Bartonella, but cat bites also carry a higher risk of rapid local wound infection due to oral bacteria. Cat scratch disease is classically linked to lymph node swelling and fever, often appearing 1–3 weeks after exposure. If a bite wound shows rapidly increasing redness, swelling, or pain early on, more urgent evaluation may be needed.
