What is the Turkish term for pneumonia?
In Turkish, “pneumonia” is called “pnömoni,” and the most commonly used public term is “zatürre.” Pneumonia refers to an infection-driven inflammation of lung tissue—especially the alveoli, the tiny air sacs responsible for oxygen exchange. When inflamed, alveoli can fill with fluid or inflammatory material, impairing oxygen transfer and causing symptoms such as cough, fever, fatigue, chest discomfort, and shortness of breath. “Pnömoni” is the clinical term, while “zatürre” is the everyday equivalent describing the same condition.
