Which vegetables contain ferritin?

Vegetables do not contain ferritin itself, but some may support ferritin stores through their iron content. Spinach, chard, purslane, kale, and other dark leafy greens are frequently mentioned for this reason. However, the iron in vegetables is less efficiently absorbed than heme iron from animal-based foods. That means vegetables alone may not be enough to correct a marked ferritin deficiency quickly. Even so, they are valuable components of a supportive nutrition plan, especially when combined with vitamin C-rich foods to improve absorption. The important idea is not to search for vegetables that literally contain ferritin, but to use iron-supportive vegetables intelligently. In more significant deficiency, diet alone may not be sufficient and medical evaluation may still be needed.
