Does tea lower magnesium?
Saying tea “directly lowers magnesium” is usually an overstatement, but indirect effects may exist. High tea/caffeine intake can increase urine output in some people, potentially influencing mineral balance. More practically, heavy tea drinking may displace nutrient-dense foods or contribute to fatigue by affecting iron absorption when consumed with meals. If you drink a lot of tea, skip meals, drink less water, and eat fewer magnesium-rich foods (nuts, legumes, whole grains), total magnesium intake can fall. The solution is rarely quitting tea entirely; it’s moderating intake, hydrating well, and improving dietary sources. Persistent cramps or fatigue should be evaluated rather than attributed to tea alone.
