Is a memory foam mattress orthopedic?

A memory foam mattress can provide orthopedic benefits for some people, but being “memory foam” does not automatically make a mattress orthopedic. Orthopedic performance depends on whether the mattress keeps the spine properly aligned and maintains stable support over time without sagging. Memory foam is excellent at reducing pressure points, offering comfort at the shoulders and hips. However, if the foam layer is too thick and the underlying support core is weak, the lower back may sink and cause misalignment. That is why the support core (high-density foam, hybrid spring system, etc.) and overall firmness are crucial. For hot sleepers, heat retention can be an issue, so ventilated designs or gel-infused foams may be a better option.
