Is yogurt good for reflux and gastritis?
Yogurt can feel soothing for some people, but its effect in reflux and gastritis depends on individual tolerance. Its protein structure and fermented components may reduce perceived acidity in some cases. On the other hand, full-fat yogurt or lactose intolerance can increase bloating and belching, potentially worsening reflux. In gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), yogurt is often tolerated, but during flare-ups, combining it with acidic or heavily spiced foods may cause discomfort. The pragmatic approach is to test plain, preferably lower-fat yogurt in a small portion and track symptoms. If symptoms are persistent, severe, or accompanied by weight loss or bleeding signs, medical evaluation is more appropriate than relying on dietary adjustments alone.
