When should a diuretic (“water pill”) be taken?
Diuretics are prescription medications and timing depends on the specific drug and the patient’s clinical context. Many are scheduled earlier in the day to avoid night-time urination, but this is individualized. Using diuretics or “water-loss” supplements without understanding the cause of edema can be risky (electrolyte imbalance, low blood pressure, palpitations, kidney effects). Bromelain is not a diuretic medication. Persistent or sudden edema warrants medical evaluation and tailored treatment.
