Why do people take magnesium in the evening?
Evening use is common for two reasons: (1) it’s easy to attach to a wind-down routine, and (2) any perceived muscle relaxation may feel more useful at night. But it’s not a rule. Some forms like citrate can stimulate bowel activity, making night use inconvenient for certain people. For heavy coffee/tea drinkers, evening dosing can also improve adherence. The best timing depends on tolerance, goals (sleep, cramps, recovery), and medication interactions. More than the clock, outcomes are driven by the right dose, form, and consistent use. High doses can cause diarrhea even at night; smaller or split doses are often more comfortable.
