Are house mice dangerous?

House mice may not be aggressive animals, but they can pose health risks. They may contaminate food, kitchen surfaces, storage areas, and indoor spaces with feces, urine, and saliva. This can create risk for hantavirus, salmonella, leptospirosis, and certain parasitic infections. Mice may also chew electrical wires, increasing fire risk, and damage insulation materials or building structures. Seeing a mouse at home should not be treated as an isolated incident; entry points, food sources, and hiding places should be inspected. Food should be stored in sealed containers, holes should be blocked, and professional pest control should be considered when necessary.
