How should mouse droppings be disinfected?

Mouse droppings should not be cleaned by dry sweeping or vacuuming because these methods may stir contaminated dust into the air. First, doors and windows should be opened and the area should be ventilated for at least 30 minutes. Gloves, a mask, and preferably eye protection should be used during cleaning. The droppings and surrounding area should be moistened with an appropriate disinfectant or diluted bleach solution and left for several minutes before being removed with disposable paper towels. Waste should be placed in a sealed bag and disposed of safely. Afterward, surfaces should be wiped again, gloves removed, and hands washed thoroughly with soap and water.
