What happens if a mouse bites us?

A mouse bite usually appears as a local wound, but it should be taken seriously because of infection risk. Redness, swelling, pain, warmth, or pus may develop around the bite area. Evaluation may also be needed for tetanus risk and rare rodent-associated infections. Hantavirus is usually transmitted not by bites but by inhaling dust contaminated with rodent waste; however, a mouse bite is still medically important. The wound should be washed immediately with soap and water, an antiseptic should be applied, and medical advice should be sought. Physician evaluation should not be delayed in children, older adults, immunocompromised individuals, or deep wounds.
