What should you do if a mouse bites you?
If a mouse bites you, the first step is to wash the wound carefully with plenty of soap and water for several minutes. Then an antiseptic should be applied and the wound covered with a clean dressing. Even if the bite appears small, medical evaluation may be needed due to infection risk, tetanus considerations, or rare zoonotic diseases. Seek medical care especially if the wound is deep, bleeding does not stop, redness, swelling, pus, fever, or increasing pain develops. If tetanus vaccination status is unknown, a clinician should assess the need for vaccination. Whether antibiotics are required depends on the wound. Rodent control should also be performed in the environment after the bite.
