Which viruses can be transmitted by kissing?

Viruses that may be transmitted through kissing include Epstein-Barr virus, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, and some respiratory viruses. Hantavirus, however, is generally not considered a virus that spreads through kissing. The main route of hantavirus transmission is inhalation of dust contaminated with the urine, feces, or saliva of infected rodents. Therefore, the primary focus in hantavirus prevention is not person-to-person contact but controlling rodent exposure and contaminated environments. Still, close contact should be avoided with people who have fever, sore throat, mouth sores, or signs of active infection.
