"2025 will be a year of awareness, focusing on solving chronic issues through proper technologies, transparency, and value-added production at every stage from farm to table."
2025: A Year of Food Awakening?
When we look at the forest rather than the trees, it's like asking the question of what the world looks like from above.
Between 2000 and 2022, the world's population grew by 1.09% each year. Wheat production also increased by 1.32% annually during the same period. Vegetable production increased by 2.13%, and fruit production increased by 1.88% each year. In other words, the production of grains, fruits, and vegetables grew faster than the increase in the human population.
Let's talk about waste. Compared to the period between 2000 and 2022, there has been a 19.23% DECREASE in food waste. I think this is a significant rate. In fact, I would like to share an excellent document for those who want to read more on this topic (https://lnkd.in/d8TRJsKR).
So, there is more food production, even more than our population. We have transitioned to a world where waste is prevented. Let's also look at "fertility rates."
The global fertility rate has gradually decreased from 2000 to 2022, and this rate has decreased by 14.8% since then. This actually shows a tremendous slowdown. This also means that our population growth on the planet will be severely limited in the future. This is very difficult, if not impossible, to change.
Looking at all this data, my brain says, "So where is the problem?" Why can't we eat? Why are chronic diseases increasing? Why is hunger still the biggest problem in the world? Why is hidden hunger, which we call an unbalanced food intake, still the most widespread problem?
When you ask these questions with this data, only one answer comes to mind: "Food Technologies, Food Formulations, Food Logistics..." I think we have made very big mistakes in these areas. We have chronic mistakes at every stage from the farm to the table. Now these are evolving from being mistakes to being "wrong."
In a world that is becoming increasingly mature and aware, food needs to meet the right technologies, we all need to "encounter" the right food formulations, and we need to encounter "foods with balanced content" through the right pricing policies. The problem is exactly here.
A voice inside me says that 2025 will be "A Year of Much Increased Awareness in Food." This will be a year in which we see chronic problems, focus on the solutions to these problems, move forward by producing solutions rather than complaining, and thus "trigger change."
When I put all the pieces of the puzzle together, a single image appears: Localized, high value-added food production enriched with local production... A "Food World" where diversity increases to the maximum extent, where there is proper labeling and hygienic production in accordance with all standards, where there is transparency, food tracking systems from farm to table, where the content can be analyzed scientifically... In short, Local Value-Added Production.. This is the solution."
