Does lemon water open heart arteries?
The claim that lemon water “opens arteries” is not scientifically accurate. Lemon provides vitamin C and certain bioactive compounds, and when mixed with water it supports hydration. Hydration and healthy dietary patterns can support circulation in general, but that is not the same as directly reversing arterial narrowing or removing plaque. The practical benefit of lemon water is often behavioral: it can replace sugary beverages and make adequate fluid intake easier. For people with reflux or stomach sensitivity, the acidic nature may cause discomfort. It is also important not to over-assign power to one drink; the major determinants of arterial health are long-term diet quality, regular activity, smoking cessation, and appropriate medical management when risk is high. Lemon water can be a helpful habit within a broader prevention system, but it is not a vascular “cleaner” or instant solution.
