Does mineral water reduce water retention?
Water retention is mainly driven by sodium balance and overall fluid-electrolyte regulation. Mineral water may feel “refreshing,” but high-sodium mineral waters can increase fluid retention rather than reduce it. So the claim “mineral water removes edema” is not accurate as a general rule. If you are prone to edema, prioritize low-sodium options, reduce total salt intake, maintain adequate hydration, and address underlying causes (hormonal factors, kidney/heart issues, medications). Persistent edema or symptoms like shortness of breath or rapid weight gain require medical assessment.
