What are symptoms of throat reflux (LPR)?
Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) affects the throat and voice box, and classic heartburn may be absent. Typical symptoms include frequent throat clearing, hoarseness, throat burning or dryness, chronic cough, morning throat irritation, and a persistent “lump in the throat” sensation. Many people mistake it for postnasal drip, and it can persist for months. Common triggers include late meals, alcohol, caffeine, mint, chocolate, and large portions. Management emphasizes earlier meal timing, optimizing sleep position, and reducing triggers. If symptoms persist, ENT and gastroenterology evaluation can clarify the diagnosis and guide evidence-based treatment.
