Colostrum is produced immediately; mature milk typically increases around days 3–5 (sometimes day 2, sometimes up to a week). Early, frequent breastfeeding and skin-to-skin help. C-section, stress, blood loss, hormonal issues, and mother–baby separation can delay onset. Seek support if milk hasn’t increased by about a week or baby output/weight is concerning.
