Alvastin is a brand of cholesterol medication containing the active ingredient atorvastatin. It is generally taken once daily, following the dose and timing recommended by the physician. It may be taken with or without food, but taking it at the same time every day improves consistency. Evening use may be practical for some people, but since atorvastatin is long-acting, the physician’s recommendation should guide timing. If a dose is missed, a double dose should not be taken.
