Atorvastatin is usually taken once daily and may be taken at any time of the day in many patients. However, taking it at the same time every day helps maintain treatment consistency. Some statins are more commonly taken at night, but atorvastatin has a longer duration of action, so the timing recommended by the physician should be followed. It can be taken with or without food, although people with stomach sensitivity may prefer taking it after meals. If a dose is missed, a double dose should not be taken.
