Where does reflux pain radiate?
Reflux discomfort is most often felt as a burning sensation in the center of the chest, but it can also be perceived in the throat, neck, jawline, or upper back due to esophageal and throat sensitivity. Some people describe pressure-like or stabbing sensations that may resemble cardiac pain. If reflux presents as laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), symptoms such as hoarseness, throat burning, chronic cough, and frequent throat clearing may dominate. The key safety rule: do not assume reflux if chest pain is new, exertional, or accompanied by sweating, palpitations, or shortness of breath. In such cases, urgent medical evaluation is the correct decision.
